A Day in Middle-earth: How Bern Became Minas Tirith
On Saturday, September 20, 2025, Bern was once again a meeting point for Tolkien fans from all over Switzerland. At CinéClub Bern, almost 300 enthusiastic visitors gathered to experience the legendary Lord of the Rings trilogy in its full Extended Edition length. The third marathon was not just a film experience, but a journey to Middle-earth full of emotions.
Precisely at 10 AM, the journey began with “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The following 15 hours were a rollercoaster of emotions: thunderous applause erupted during epic moments, there was collective laughter – especially when Gandalf got grumpy – and sometimes breathtaking silence, where only quiet sobs could be heard.
It was a day when you felt like you were part of the Fellowship of the Ring yourself – albeit without the real threat of Sauron.
“Agórel vae” – To all who were there. One thing is clear to us now: Middle-earth lives – and its heart beats in Bern.
